Long Beach is different from the rest of our service area in one important way: the city runs its own gas utility. Long Beach Utilities, which also handles water and sewer, supplies natural gas to Long Beach and Signal Hill. If you smell gas at the meter or need the gas turned off and on, Long Beach Utilities is the company to call, not SoCalGas.
We focus on the eastern side of the city, closest to Cerritos. That includes Los Altos, the neighborhoods around Cal State Long Beach, and the streets near El Dorado Regional Park and Long Beach Airport. Many homes here were built in the 1950s and have original gas piping that is now around seventy years old.
The utility handles the meter and the line up to it. Gas leak repair on your side of the meter, including the piping into the house and every appliance connection, is what we do.

Gas leaks we repair in East Long Beach
Original 1950s piping
Homes in Los Altos and nearby neighborhoods often still have original gas lines with worn fittings and valves.
Buried lines to garages
Detached garages and backyard units fed by buried lines are common, and those lines can corrode.
Appliance connections
Ranges, dryers and water heaters moved or replaced over the years leave connections that can loosen.
Remodel extensions
Gas lines added during remodels are a frequent source of leaks when they were not tested properly.
How we help in East Long Beach
If Long Beach Utilities has shut off your gas because of a leak, we find and repair it, then pressure test the system so service can be restored. For planned work, we coordinate with you on timing.
Strong smell of gas? Leave the house and call 911 or Long Beach Utilities from outside. Then call us for the repair.
Working with Long Beach Utilities
Because Long Beach runs its own gas utility, the steps after a leak are a little different from the rest of our service area. If you smell gas at the meter or the street, Long Beach Utilities is the company that responds. If they find the leak is on your side, they may shut off your gas until the house piping is repaired and tested.
That is where we come in. We locate the leak, repair it, and pressure test the system so the utility can restore service. If you are not sure whether a smell is coming from the meter or from your own piping, call us and describe what you are noticing. We will tell you who to call first.
