Southern California backyards get used all year, and a natural gas line is what lets a BBQ, fire pit or pool heater run without swapping propane tanks. Running gas outdoors involves a few steps indoor work does not: trenching, pipe that is made to be buried, transitions where the line comes back above ground, and a valve placed where you can reach it.
We work out the size of the line from every outdoor appliance you plan to run, including the ones you might add later. It is far easier to size a line for a future fire pit now than to dig a second trench next year.
What our outdoor gas lines service includes
- Planning the route from the gas supply to each outdoor appliance
- Sizing the line for the combined rating of every planned appliance
- Trenching and buried polyethylene gas pipe with a tracer wire
- Risers and transitions where the line comes out of the ground
- An accessible shut-off valve at each grill, fire pit or heater
- Pressure testing before backfill and a leak check at every connection
How the job works, step by step
- Plan the layoutWe walk the yard with you, mark appliance locations and agree on the trench route around patios and plantings.
- Mark and trenchUtility lines are marked before we dig, then we trench to the depth required for buried gas pipe.
- Install and testWe lay the pipe, install risers and valves, and pressure test the line while the trench is still open.
- Connect and lightAfter backfill, we connect each appliance, check for leaks and light it so you can see it running.
Projects that need an outdoor gas line
- A built-in grill or outdoor kitchen island in a new or remodeled patio
- A fire pit or fire table that you want to run on natural gas instead of propane
- A new or replacement pool or spa heater
- A patio heater or outdoor fireplace
- Switching an existing propane grill to natural gas with the maker's conversion kit
When to call us
Call us early in a backyard project, ideally before the patio is poured or the island is built. Running the gas line first means no cutting into finished concrete later.
If you already have a gas line outside and want to add an appliance, call us to check whether the existing line is large enough before you buy.
Strong smell of gas? Leave the house first and call 911 or your gas utility from outside. Then call us for the repair.
